The fall of Syria

Assads fall

This article was originally published in Danish on December 18, 2018.

At the end of the last millennium, the Israeli government decided to launch a systematic annihilation of the states that stood in the way of Israeli ambitions to create a greater Israel.1 This list was apparently teleported to the so-called government in Washington, which in reality is merely the executive arm of the Israeli government, but they knew that getting the US to implement this plan would be a difficult task – it took an event of dimensions, a new Pearl Harbor, to get Americans to back this plan. This new Pearl Harbor magically occurred on September 11, 2001, when people of Arab nationality hijacked some planes and flew them into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon respectively, while one was brought down in a field in Pennsylvania. It was an event that has given rise to much speculation – and many crazy ideas, but few are completely convinced that the official account of the event is the whole truth. I will leave that speculation to others. They are dismissed as conspiracy theories, but that’s a term generally applied to all the things people would rather not think about, such as the Great Replacement, which is generally dismissed as a conspiracy theory, but which can be observed in reality every single day.

After that, the states on Israel’s list fell one by one – whether they had anything to do with the hijackings or not. This war is generally referred to as the war on terror – but it is in fact the largest terrorist operation conducted since the Second World War. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Sudan, were destroyed one by one. Egypt also experienced regime change, but it was only half successful. Egypt is still a functioning society – but the question is for how long. Jordan has surrendered without war, but unrest lurks. Most recently, Syria has been added to the list. That still leaves Iran, which is probably best placed to resist the pressure if the government knows how to manage the situation. An attack on Iran today would be an attack on Russia, and it would have far-reaching consequences.

Like Iraq under Saddam Hussein, Syria under Assad was a Western-oriented, orderly and civilized society with equal rights for women and minorities. However, it must be remembered that hardly any of these countries, most of which emerged from the ruins of the Ottoman Empire, are nation states in our sense. To speak of an Iraqi or Syrian nation, or an Iraqi or Syrian people, is simply a misuse of the terms. Syria is inhabited by people of different religions and cultures, different languages and different ethnicities. There is of course a Sunni majority (who speak a Syriac variant of Arabic), but there are also Alawites (an offshoot of Islam whose followers are very Europid and largely upper class. Assad is an Alawite), Shiites (another variety of Islam, especially prevalent in Iran), Christians (ancient Christians who speak Assyrian, descended from Aramaic, the language Jesus supposedly spoke, Armenian Christians and other Christians), Yazidis (an ancient religion with Indo-European roots whose followers are very European in appearance and speak Kurdish, which is an Indo-European language related to Persian and has absolutely nothing to do with Arabic, although in some places it is written in the Arabic alphabet, in others in Latin or Cyrillic), Kurds (who are Sunni Muslims but speak Kurdish), Druze (whose esoteric religion is based on Islam but is not considered part of Islam). And then of course there are Armenians, Turks, Lebanese, Palestinians, etc.).

Diversity, as we know, has never been a strength, but a recipe for destruction.

On the face of it, this is a patchwork and complicated society that is very difficult to reform – and to hold together. It’s not done with dialogue coffee. The more complex a population is, the rougher methods are needed. The rebellion against Assad started when he wanted to reform the economy. It can be difficult to get people to understand that they have to adapt – and especially the elderly and the least educated will have problems. We all thought that the danger had more or less passed – and suddenly Assad and Syria fall within weeks.

Of course, it hasn’t happened naturally. Israel is the country that has won the most – and it is probably also Israel that has been behind the upheaval, but in close cooperation with the US and supported by Erdoğan, who is the most dishonest, treacherous and devious player on the political scene, who has just broken off diplomatic relations with Israel while planning an action against Syria together with Israel. He and Netanyahu certainly intend to divide Syria between them. Israel has already wiped out all Syrian military installations in the country – ports, airports, planes, ships, weapons. At the same time, it has occupied not only the Golan Heights, but also a very wide “security zone” around them. Today they are close to Damascus. Erdoğan especially wants to exterminate the large Kurdish population. There is one in Turkey, where they are systematically persecuted and oppressed, and Erdoğan fears that a Kurdish state will emerge in Iraq and Syria. A unification of the Kurds in Turkey, Iraq and Syria would be the only reasonable thing, and this unification in an independent state should have been implemented immediately after the First World War, when a series of artificial states were created under French and British sovereignty. In addition, Erdoğan wants to incorporate the northern part of Syria into Turkey, a project he has already started.

What has happened to the respect for the borders of sovereign states that we hear so much about in other contexts? Why must Israel and Turkey attack Syria? Sanctions must be imposed on Israel and arms aid must be sent to the Syrians…. I’m just dreaming. The gangster state USA decides what you can and cannot do – depending on who does it. It’s called the “rules-based order” – as opposed to international law!

But how was this possible? The Syrian army was well equipped, its soldiers reasonably well trained. The only piece of Syria I have visited is the Syrian embassy in Beirut, where I have been too many times without getting the visa I wanted. It looks like a fortress. Observers assume that the officers have simply been bribed by the Americans. Certainly not impossible in these parts of the world…, but it still sounds a bit fantastic. And why has Assad been completely passive lately? His wife is seriously ill, but it still seems strange. Maybe one day we’ll get an explanation.

In the West, the joy of having “gotten rid” of Assad seems to have no end. So let’s take a brief look at the new rulers. Who are they? In short: Islamic terrorists of the worst kind. Abu Mohammed al-Julani has personally slit the throats of people under the ISIS terrorist regime in Syria. The CIA has put a $10 million bounty on his head and his organization HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham – pronounced assham) is on the CIA’s list of the 10 most dangerous terrorist organizations in the world, a list where you look in vain for Hamas and Hezbollah (Party of God). And now he is being hailed as the new hope for the future of Syria. Does idiocy know no bounds? To appease Western viewers, Julani has shaved his beard a little, dressed somewhat European and allowed himself to be interviewed by a female journalist – albeit wearing a Muslim jumpsuit. He now supposedly professes to be a supporter of diversity (which in his mind probably means it doesn’t matter if you wear brown or black chador…) As former CIA intelligence analyst Larry Johnson puts it: “It’s like putting lipstick on a pig and presenting it as Marilyn Monroe!”

But where does HTS come from? HTS is a direct descendant of the Muhajedin movement the Americans created in Afghanistan to fight the Soviet Union’s attempt to create a stable state there. The intermediate stations are called Al Qaeda, ISIS, Al-Nusra, etc. The Americans have also used these to create unrest in Chechnya and Dagestan, to organize terror in Moscow – and most recently to storm Crocus City Hall, which still lies like a burnt skeleton just off the highway around Moscow. The terrorism that they pretended and still pretend to want to fight has been created and used at will. If you want to fight terrorism in the world, you have to start with the most dangerous terrorist state of all: THE UNITED STATES!

Now let me act as a prophet and I will predict the future of Syria, now that the thrill of victory has subsided and the prisons have been emptied of criminals. The country will descend into absolute chaos, just like Iraq did. The 5-6 different Islamic groups that have taken power will find it difficult to agree on anything constructive, but they are serious about religion and will not tolerate any deviation from the correct teachings, i.e. what each group considers to be the ‘correct’ version of Islam. In a relatively short period of time, they will begin to fight for power among themselves and the pig will wipe off the lipstick. But first comes the infidels and non-Arab groups: they have already started murdering Kurds (even though they are also Muslims). The few Yazidis left after the last IS regime will be burned alive – they are accused of being pagans and sorcerers. And of course, the Christians2 will be killed and their churches burned. Then the different Muslim factions will start killing each other. Along the way, hundreds of thousands of innocent people will be tortured and cruelly killed. But the West applauds the new rulers. Israel wants chaos all around it! For God’s chosen people, other people’s lives mean nothing, see Gaza and Lebanon3 and read your Bible story as it appears in the Pentateuch.

However, Israel will probably find that its imperialistic inclinations exceed its capabilities – even with unlimited American support from the Trump administration, which will surpass anything we have seen so far in terms of lechery for Israel. However, there are limits to how much Israel can control – and there are limits to how much Erdoğan can afford to support them. Islamism has become strong in Turkey. And then there is Iran, which I will come back to later. They will not tolerate a “Greater Israel” and if they don’t already have the nuclear bomb, I would probably recommend that they get it done in a hurry. Only the nuclear bomb can protect a country effectively. The joy of a nuclear war would be that the United States would be wiped out – the sad thing is that the rest of us would also disappear from the face of the earth. But perhaps we have become so degenerate that it would just be the natural order of things taking its course. We don’t deserve to survive.

People like to say that Iran has been severely weakened by the fall of Assad, and you can’t deny that it has hurt – but Iran still controls the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran has a formidable army, plenty of raw materials and a good infrastructure. Add to that a well-educated population whose upper class is mainly of Indo-European descent. Of course, over 40 years of sanctions have left their mark – but the new alliance with Russia (and the other Brics states) will mitigate many of the effects of the sanctions. However, Iran’s future will also depend on whether the religious regime will refrain from unnecessarily dividing the population over their dress code. Dress codes are not popular and are only followed to the extent that they are absolutely necessary. As one mullah himself put it: the desire to wear hijab must come from within. This is exactly right. You shouldn’t create division on this issue. However, as with Russia, it is also a myth that the Iranian people are just waiting for an opportunity to revolt. This is by no means the case!

Erdoğan may well find himself in the same situation as the sorcerer’s apprentice. He has unleashed forces that he will probably not be able to control in the long run. Fanatical Islamism could also pose a threat to Turkey. And the new rulers are unlikely to allow Turkish land grabs in the northern provinces. Furthermore, the Kurds – who are also supported by the US – are not to be ignored. They are ready to carry terror to Turkish cities to spread fear and terror.

The US has long since stolen the Syrian oil – and they probably want to keep it. But how long will the honeymoon with the Islamists last? It could be a very short marriage.

They also say that Russia has been weakened. Annoyed is probably a better word. They have invested in Assad, who just gave it all up and ran off. I’m not sure Assad will be invited to tea with Putin very often. However, the new rulers seem interested in the Russians keeping their bases in the country. After all, they are the only organized military left. And I wonder if the Russians will be persuaded to stay? We’ll have to wait and see. After all, the naval base is home to Russia’s Mediterranean fleet.

When I see all the joy Syrians living here show after the fall of Assad, I can only wish them safe travels. This must be the consequence. They no longer have a reason to be here.

But they probably won’t leave – and in any case, they will be replaced by the hundreds of thousands who will soon be displaced by the new rulers. Israel does not want to occupy a territory with people in it. The Arabs must be driven out so that they create problems for the Europeans and so that there is more room for the Jews.

It is difficult to understand the love of nationalist-minded Danes for Israel. It can only be due to a lack of knowledge and a moral compass in need of replacement.
