Election theater – 3. Romania

You don’t usually hear much about Romania in the news. It’s a mostly beautiful country, a Romance language island in the middle of a Slavic language world. One of the vagaries of history. My father lived in Romania for a few years in his twenties. His opinion of Romanians was such that it was not fit to be written down. He considered them to be only slightly above the Gypsies. Therefore, he moved to Hermannstadt (Sibiu), which at the time was purely German populated. Today, there are only a few Germans left, but there are still a large number of Hungarians in the same area who would very much like to “heim ins Reich” – for them, that means home to Hungary. I first visited Romania in 1983 – during the rule of Ceausescu, who made the other Eastern European states look like shining examples of democracy and freedom. When communism fell, his rule also collapsed and the execution of him and his horrible wife was shown on television screens all over the world – an example to follow!

When I was back in Bucharest a few years ago, I spoke to a Romanian who had experienced the revolution at first hand. It was not a popular revolution as it was portrayed. The demonstrations were organized down to the last detail and everything was carefully orchestrated by Securitate – the otherwise feared Romanian security service that made both the Stasi and Gestapo pale in comparison. The common explanation in Romania is that the Securitate people had skillfully scraped off the altar of corruption and that the writing was now on the wall. So they had to remove the political top, become good democrats overnight, and then invest their funds in the free economy that could now emerge. These people supposedly own Romania today. Democracy, freedom etc. is just a facade. Romania is good at facades. Even under Ceausescu, you could experience an abundance of everything that no Romanian could dream of at glamorized bathing resorts along the Black Sea.

However, facades can crack – and then you see the falsity, pretense and deceit unvarnished. Romania has just had a presidential election. It was won by an overwhelming majority by a non-party candidate with right-wing support, Calin Georgescu. He is critical of NATO, positive towards Russia, against the war in Ukraine and so on – in short, he’s one of those people you shouldn’t play with. But the population had a different opinion. They got the country’s Supreme Court to annul the election – which, according to experts, there really is no legal basis for. As Danish Broadcasting Corporation – for whom truth and critical journalism are cities in northeastern Siberia – writes: “The decision comes after the Romanian security service [oops, that one again] earlier this week presented documents indicating that Russia has carried out ‘aggressive hybrid attacks’ on the Eastern European country in connection with the elections.” The source cited is the internet media Politico, owned by Axel Springer Verlag, which acts as a propaganda organ for the EU. No one has seen these documents. No one has explained what this “hybrid war” consisted of and in what way it was able to influence the election – illegally, that is. They point to a series of videos on TikTok – but I can’t find any details. Calin Georgescu ran his campaign on TikTok, and election campaigns are a form of “propaganda”. If you were to remove all election advertising that skirts around the truth, you would not be able to run an election campaign.

The simple fact is that the voters have voted for the “wrong” candidate – the one who does not belong to the crime syndicate. The voters are welcome to revote until they choose the “right” one. Now that’s democracy – one of the basic values of the West!

It is also expected that Calin Georgescu will of course be banned from participating in the re-election – he is allegedly guilty of electoral fraud. This whole coup will only mean that Calin Georgescu will get twice as many votes next time, so I wonder if they will find a way to exclude him.

This is gross – so gross that even his opponent is protesting.

For America, it was a relatively cheap regime change – from a so-called democracy to what they had under Ceausescu – perhaps in a milder version, but the principle is the same. The deep state decides who can be elected to what. It could just about fit otherwise!

The current president, Klaus Iohannis, who belongs to the German minority, ‘reassures’ the population and declares that “Romania is and remains a safe, solid and pro-European country. I say this to NATO: Romania remains a safe and solid [sic] ally” – as Danish Broadcasting Corporation writes after Politico. Yes, “democracy” is saved! Incidentally, Iohannis declares that he intends to remain in his post until the “right” candidate is chosen – just like his Georgian colleague – and that could take a long time. The politicians are saved – and the people have lost.

There is fear of unrest – you should fear a revolution followed by public execution – just like last time.

Incidentally, I believe that the USA should be wiped out.
